A 66 named "AMI"

Hi Guys,

Posted a year or so ago about a nice 66 coupe body that I have. I have tried many legal venues for the Title and no luck whatsoever, Finally contacted the previous owner and he still won't cop up the title.(I know it's his I have the registration.)

Anyway as time has gone on I've kept my eye on Craigslist for just a tub to use my stuff on. Finally found one. A 65 coupe in what appears to be in great condition. One rust hole in the front floorboard,(Easy fix)
I also received a small block engine, C-4 tranny, Dual Stainless exhaust, hooker headers and a few other things.
I have Gutted the interior out getting it ready for paint, removed the front windshield along with the rear window. Completely removed everything in the engine bay. Next I'll remove all of the suspension then sand blast everything and start a ground up rebuild.

Here's a couple of pics.

This is my first view.

Here we are loading the engine in the bed.

Removing the interior items.

Interior gutted except Steering column

Windshield, rear window and Engine bay stripped out also.

This is enough for now. Next is the rust repair in the floorbed and removal of all front a rear suspension along with all steering assembly. Then Sandblasting.

You can see more pics and info. at my Mustang build website! This site is in the works it's not very organized, I'm working on it as time allows.

Looks Good...

Here in Oklahoma, We have title 42 process.

If some one left a car at my shop over 30 days I can do a title 42 on it.

It takes 60 days and the state will give me a clear good title to the car.

Yes, They do have that here but it has to be an authorized mechanic shop not a private individual.... No matter how long it's been in my position...

Thanks for the response!!

I'm sure you could find a shop that you could drop it off at for 31 days, then buy it back for a small fee after they have claimed it.

I'm going to leave it behind the garage for a while and do some more checking. This tub has to be worth a little more than most due to how clean and rust free it is. Then again, Sometimes it's just best to walk away..

I'm using everything else off the body, Doors, Fenders, Trunk deck, all Grille components ETC.. So I do feel for what I have for the new one I'm pretty well covered.. And I received another Lesson in life of not trusting anyone!! (That's a downfall I've had for lots of years..)

Hi Guys/Gals,

I just got off the phone from ordering a ground effects package for "Ami"....

Fiberglass Cowl hood, Front Facia, Side scoops, and lower mouldings. I still need to get the 1969 Mustang Spoiler for that rear, and I want some fender extensions. The fender wheel flare extensions are handled by another company but this is it for this month. (Actually this is a two month saving project....)I have been trying to sand the paint off but there are so many coats (6) that it's taking forever even with a DA and 36 grit paper.. I have found some minor bondo on it. I am sanding it all out and redoing it. I also found a little more rust in the rain rails. Overall no real bad things just more work..

My compressor took a dump (Been using a small construction compressor that's slow) and I'm going to have to replace it, More money I wasn't counting on otherwise I would be sandblasting the whole thing.

As it turned out it was easier to use a gasket scraper to actually scrape the many layers of paint off then sand the final coat down. I did approximately 1/2 the car. The passenger rear quarter panel has a bunch of small ridges that looks like someone left a bunch of junk in the trunk and it hit the quarter, some filling will be necessary there. the Bondo by in back of the door isn't as bad as it could be but instead of someone pulling the dent they layered bondo in it. The side scoops will cover most of it I believe. After flared in with filler.

The air line is from my small construction air compressor, let it fill then sand for about 3 minutes or so.
