Looking at a '68 coupe tomorrow

ok -

This is my first thread, I'm going to look at a '68 Coupe tomorrow, 302, C4, pictures dont look bad, but there is rust...in Hood, Floorboards, Trunk, and more than likely Fenders, and quarters.

The person that has it has another Mustang project and doesnt have time for both. He's only asking $1000

I just have to clean out the garage to make room, and he will haul it here. Just wondering what else I will run into on this project. I'm wanting to do a restomod on it, so the C4 would go and be replaced with an AOD, and the 302 will get a roller cam, new heads, and bottom end.

Any advice will be welcomed

Thanks

Awesome, sounds like a good deal. Do you know anything else about the car, mileage, clean title I hope? '68 is a great year. I picked up a '68 over a month ago and I love this car. Issue I had with mine was the torque box. If you have issues with the floor pans, you most likely need a torque box on thr passenger side at least as it is always the first part to rust. Check the cowl panel for leaks, may be why there was an issue with the floorboards. How does the rest of the car look? You have all parts? Great deal if so. Post pics if you can.

Well I went and looked at the Mustang, though it should be called a rustang...The roof, floorboards, rockers, fenders, hood, trunk, and rear frame rails were toast. It would have taken untold hours, and hours to bring this one back, and unfortunatly it was beyond my fabrication capabilities.

So bottom line is, I'm still in the hunt for a good car to make into a beautiful restorod...

Thanks

Here is the link, and since my discussion with the owner he's reconsidered the car...and is now just selling the engine, and trans...

just a bit of advice for you. you are wanting to build a restomod. that means more than likely upgrading suspension, brakes, transmission, and most likely the engine. so what you really need to look for is a body in decent shape, who really cares about the engine and transmission, you are going to change those anyway. that is what I did with my daughters car it had a pretty solid body with surface rust and rotted floorpan but the rest of the car was solid, it was a 6 cylinder car but I did not care because I wanted a 5.0 with AOD anyway. so the most important thing you need to find is a solid body even if there is no engine, trans or interior with it.

Well that is the plan, and I'm capable of doing the floorboards, as It's something that I've done before on my son's truck. I can weld, do some bodywork, paint, etc. But unfortunatly this car was too far gone, the guy is going to sell the engine and trans, and send the rest to the cruncher.

So I'm still in the hunt for either a 67 or 68 Mustang coupe. Right now I'm searching in GA, FL, TN, AL, and SC. I know there is something out there at a reasonable price, and not someone asking $5,000 for a basketcase, or a Rustang. I will not give up until I find the right car. I am prepared, and know it is going to be a years long project for what I intend.

Alright guys I know some have been intrested in my search...Going to Birmingham, AL on Saturday morning to look at another '68 coupe. Pics are AWESOME, but simply cannot compare to seeing a car up close.

Here are some of the pics.

I'm interested in everyone's comments...If I buy it on Saturday, I'll let you know how much I paid, and what all I got!
