Buying a Project 69 Mustang: Have some questions

So Im thinking of buying a 1969 mustang and have a couple of questions. The guy that is selling it told me it is a 69 with a 302 engine and a 3 speed transmission. Did these cars come with a 302?
He says the car starts but doesn't run. He also said it needs a new carburetor.

I also don't know much about the transmission. I have heard of 4 speeds but not of the 3 speed transmission. Is this a common transmission?

302 is available in the 69 & the 3 speed manual trans is the standard for that year.
