Turn Signal Light

Hi,

I have a 1966 coupe.

All of a sudden, my passenger-side, front turn signal light doesn’t flash off and on and the turn signal indicator light in the instrument cluster doesn't flash either.

The passenger side rear light is fine, and all the lights on the driver side work fine.

The passenger-side, front turn signal light will turn on when I switch on my parking lights, but the light won’t flash. The turn signal indicator light in the instrument cluster won’t turn on at all.

I replaced the turn signal light bulb and the indicator light bulb but that didn't solve the problem.

Even though the two lights won't flash, I can hear the flasher switch clicking, which I guess means it is okay. Am I wrong?

I’m thinking the flasher switch will either work or it won’t work.

Could the flasher switch be the problem?

Could be. I think I would start there. Could be a bad ground. Get a volt meter and start testing every thing.

Checking

I checked it out but have little patience for that kind of checking. I decided to take it to an auto electric shop to get it fixed. Next week the technician will fix my horn, too, which hasn't worked since I'd have the car (8 months).

Update

Often, I can't understand a technician's explanation of a fix. They explain fast and use terms I'm not very sure of. Anyway, he said there was a connection cluster of wires (or something like that) under the dash above where my left knee would be. There was a female connector that had worn out and created a bad connection. He didn't have the part to replace it, so he joined the male and female wires with tape and re-established a good connection.

Everything works (but I had to go back to him to get my steering wheel put back on straight).

That's what I could make out from what he said.

Does this make sense?

I go back to him next week to get the horn working. He said he needs to replace the horn kit, apparently inside the steering wheel column, and then "re-engineer" a broken/missing part on my steering wheel, I believe, to establish the connection and get things working the way they are supposed to. He gave me the option of putting in a new steering wheel, but the previous owner of my car had installed an "oversized" steering wheel that I'd like to keep using.
