Back Up Light Problems.

Ok I know this is a simple problem, but I can't seem to get my back up lights to completely insert into it's slot.?

I'm guessing all you have to do is push the bulb in and turn it clockwise but it doesn't seem to get that far.

Here is the bulbs I have and I'm pretty sure they are the right ones.

Make sure the black part will push in easy, You can push it and see the hooks.

You can use some wd-40 to make is move easier.

I have tried this and I just cant get the bulb to turn... I removed the tail light bulb just to see how it was and if they are the same thing then it looks like the bulb will not lock in because of the metal tabs on the side of the bulb are even across from each other and the tail lights holding fixture is offset.

So the black piece can be moved back a little and all the only thing you are having problems with is getting the bulb to turn and lock into place? I was really worried about replacing mine before because I was afraid they were going to break while I tried turning them. Mine just pushed right in and turned fairly easy. Not really sure what could be causing you to have a hard time

Yeah the black piece will push back but the bulb will not lock into place. I guess I have the right bulbs so now I will remove the backlight assembly and see what I can do, but I think I am going to have electrical problems to begin with lol, but thanks for your reply.

Maybe you could pull the reverse light assembly out and run up to any local auto parts store and i'm sure they will try to help you out. It could be really simple as you said the bulb tabs might have a slightly different offset than the housing. If all else fails I guess you could replace the housings. I think they go for around $50 for the pair. But of course its better to save the money if the old is fixable.

Ok. Well I got one of the housings out and messed around with it for a little bit and finally got the bulb to fit in but I am pretty sure that im not getting voltage at either housing. So I guess I am going to have some wiring problems and now I need to trace down the electrical issues.

Does your radio work? Hopefully it could be as simple as a fuse. The fuse for the back-up lights and radio is number 1. So the one at the very top, I hope that might be the case because electrical diagnosis is a pain.

Well the first time I tried to crank it the radio made a weird static like noise and went out .. and last time I tried to turn the radio on it would come off then on in a flashing motion.

Ok, You need to look at your neutral safety switch wiring so we can keep it with at test light.

The wiring comes out of the fire wall beside the engine gauge feed.

it is a four wire plug 2 wire are red w/blue stripe, The other 2 are your back up light wiring. Black w/red wires.

Unplug the wires and check the side that comes out of the fire wall.

With the key on use your test light to check the female one for power.

What in the world is this that's unhooked?

Well whatever it is .. only one pin is getting anything with the key turned.

I believe two wires are going into that pin and they are green w/ orange stripe maybe?? And black w/ red or brown stripe??

Not sure if this is right or not but it might be your back up lamp switch.
Heres a picture how mine looks

The wire then runs along the top of the transmission

I lost it from there however on this schematic it looks like it is a back up lamp switch. I have a hard time tracing wires from schematics sometimes though.

Hope this helps

Well I looked for the other plug to this plug (red one)and I do not see it... It was not hooked up in the first place ... So I decided to start on the other end.

Just to give you a back story the previous owner left me with a trunk full of parts and electrical problems.

Like this rats nest of wiring.

From the looks of it the wiring runs along the inside wheel well.

Then runs near the quarter panel interior.(Near the "inserts".)

Then the wire enters the bottom of the door area.

After that the wire appear to exit to the left of the gas/break pedals.

Now after that I had to quit searching because it started raining and plus I looking/taking pictures that put me in positions that would make a yoga instructor jealous.

The one you have circled in red is what we need to work with.

The black w/red is the back up light wiring, That plug is to be plug into a neutral safty switch on the side of the c4 tranny.

With the key on the black female is to have power on it.

The other 2 are your starter solnoid wires Red w/blue stripe. The female there has power on it when you hit the key to start.

your tail light side wiring looks like it is a mess also.. Might need replacing. it is pretty cheap.

Neutral safty switch.

Alright this is what I found... I dont know if this is right or not but here it goes...

I think the safety switch is supposed to be here??? I'm guessing ...

This is the best picture I have of the area.

This picture was taken facing towards the front of the car. I tried to use this pic to go by ..

From the looks of it I'm missing the switch overall.
If I am wrong you will have to excuse my lack of knowledge.

That looks right to me, however I too have a lack of knowledge in things like this. I try to help when I can considering how often I have had forums help me.
The picture you use for refernence has the springs and cable from the switch, i'm confused as to what your metal braket looking things in its place are for.
If you want I can go crawl under mine and try to get a picture of how it looks. It porbably would be close to the reference picture you have but just a thought.

I appreciate the offer to take the picture, but you don’t have to do that unless you have time or you actually want to take it. I had a hard enough time taking my picture so I know it isn’t fun. Another option is to wait for a reply from MustangOne .... orrrrr we could just trade cars that would be the most helpful thing.
