Question regarding a 67 Fastback suspension and tranny change
Hello everyone,
I'm relatively new here. I've been logging in for a while now but hadn't really posted. I've been working on my 67 fastback for about 2 years now and I finally finished with most of it but now that it's driveable, it doesn't really feel like what I had imagined it would. I have the orginal engine, tranny and suspension on it so I expected it to feel like an older car but I guess I under estimated how "old" it would feel. My question is, I want to change the suspension on it and also the transmission, possibly the engine too. I can't afford to do it all at once so what should I do first and what would you suggest I put in? I only want to make it handle more like a newer car but I am not looking for anything extreme like some of the cars I've seen here, basically because I can't afford it. I want a car that with the looks of a classic but the feel and handling of a late model. I've been told I can buy a wrecked late mustang and transfer everything over to mine. Any opinions on this? I currently have a 289 and a 4 speed manual, all original. I have very little knowledge or experience. I will have some help in doing this but the person helping me is not as knowledgeable about mustangs as most of you on here. Thanks in advance for your help. |

I tried adding pics of my car on here but for some reason the file always fails to upload even though the file size is within the limits. Any help with this too will be appreciated

I can't really help out on the suspension/tranny stuff. But as far as pictures go you can upload them to a photobucket account and then copy the IMG code onto here and it will automatically resize. Or if you don't have a photobucket you can take them into microsoft paint and resize them down a little and use tinypic to upload them.

How to post photos in your thread
On the tranny a T-5 5 speed out of any Mustang 1986 to 1995 4 cyl not the best but have good low first gear. Front Suspension I use the TCI front suspension. It handles like it is on rails. I love it. |

I looked into the TCI suspensions. Is that as economical as it gets? Is there something a bit less expensive but also not totally crap? I'm working on a tight budget right now. Also, I might end up changing the engine for maybe a 5.0 or something along those lines. Would I have to change the suspension again?
Thanks. |

Depends on which 5.0 you mean. Do you mean the new coyote motor out of the 2011+ mustangs or the one from the fox body and coupe SN95 year mustangs?
If the coyote you would need the TCI suspension. But if it was the normal old 302 you can replace your stock suspension. The old 302 will bolt up to the current motor mounts in your car.

Those are 4.6L modular motors, so you would still have to use something similar to the TCI suspension. Transmission from those cars shouldn't be a problem, would just have to buy the correct transmission crossmember.

We have the same style hood
I really like that color combo and the side exhaust set up. Also what kind of seats are those? I've been looking for seats with actual head rests and I want Corbeau micro suede seats. But everyone in my family thinks it would look weird

I believe they came off a 70 mustang but I'm not sure. I traded my originals for these. I've been told by some that I should've left the originals but I also wanted the headrests. If you live somewhere where it gets very hot then I totally recommend the micro suede inserts, they've come in very handy when the inside gets really hot.

i would get sub frame connectors, 620 coils, new bushings in your leaf springs, new shocks, export brace, monte carlo bar, and thick sway bars and see if that makes it ride like you want it to
