Radiator: Car Needs to Run Cooler

It's around 100 degrees almost everyday where I live.

My car’s temperature gauge reads half way between cold and hot when I'm cruising (which seems fine), but when faced with stop-and-go driving, the temperature gauge gets pretty close to hot.

I flushed the radiator and put in some new antifreeze/coolant. But the problem is still there.

What else could I do to get the car to run cooler in traffic?

What kind of fan do you have? Do you have a fan shroud? Do you have a old stock Radiator?

Is the engine stock or is it modded? Has it been bored? If so how much?

It looks like an aluminum fan; it has six blades. The radiator is definitely aluminum, quite large. But no, the car doesn't have a fan shroud. Could that be the culprit?

To my knowledge, the engine isn't modded. It's a 302 w/4 bbl.

I would start with a fan shroud.

Do you have any tips on installation.? It looks like I'd have to remove my radiator.

I think I would try to make one so it would be easy to put on.

It sounds like I should try to make my own fan shroud.... Is this what you have in mind?

The Wetter Water idea sounds good. Is it an anti- freeze/coolant additive, or a replacement for anti-freeze/coolant?

My car doesn't have a fan clutch. Someone once told me that a fan clutch drains horsepower; so, I have steered clear of it -- for better or worse.

Wetter water is an additive. Its seems to be helping with me. As for the clutch on the fan I was told the it better for the HP on the motor. I will have to do some looking into this. I removed my Power steering and didn't re-install the factory AC to help the HP. Also could not stand the way the car handle and sounded with PS.

My car doesn't have power steering or AC either. That's the way it was when I bought it. No power brakes either, but it has aftermarket disk brakes in the front. I'm completely okay without those "power" accessories.

I ordered a fan shroud, but because my radiator isn't stock I'm told I'll have to make my own fan shroud brackets for installation.

I'll give it a day or two of my time to try to figure it out. If not I'll have to go to a radiator shop and have them work on it.

If the problem is still there, I'll try the Wetter Water....

I'm in the same situation as you. So I would definitely look into getting an electric fan. It will contiue to move high volumes of air when at low RPMs and even at idle.

Grimmy is correct..Summit has a fan on sale that would work perfect
on your can..comes with shroud..$100.

Engine Ice works better than water wetter..will reduce temp
