need some performance help...

Ok I have a 72 mustang sprint and have decided i just want to get my car back on the rod for now. I am looking for a 6-speed conversion for my car (My tranny isthe fmx and is starting to slip bad and i dont want to waste the money on it.) and i have a 351w and a Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake and a holey 65 carb i want it to run good and give me the most bang for my buck without tearing into the motor (yet) I need some head and cam advice. Which one? do i need a new carb? Please help. Thanks

I am not really sure what you want. Heads and a cam are both good and a 650 carb is good. A six speed can be done, but its alot of work.

Here is a post that might help you wuth your 6 speed.

http://www.moddedmustangs.com/forums...s-vt17966.html

I would get some alum. heads. Thay are all pretty good. I would try to get a big name brand. Your cam, I would get a mild cam for the street the works at higher rpms. You don't want the RV/truck cam. On your heads, you want roller rockers and valve springs to match your cam. I guess you are going to need to get some harded push rods too. A roller cam would be nice too.

Try these guys. I would call them and ask them for a good set up for your needs.

I like Edelbrock. Its not the best at everything, but its good at everything.

if you dont match your engine work to your tranny and rear, you may as well throw your money in the street.

I bet my motor work just as well if it had a four speed of a five speed in it. So thats not all true.

I think what he is implying is If you try to put 500whp out of a factory tranny, driveshaft, and diff you could mess it up. It needs to be able to withstand the power you are putting out.

ponyrunner.... if i were you i would call comp. cams or crane cams twll then what you got on your engine and ask them what cam ill give you the best performance for your set up... as far asyour tranny IMO i would not put a six speed in... too many gears to shift through especially if you have alot of power... in my car i have a 351w im building right now. i'm keeping my stock c4 and gonna rebuild it and put a hurst v-matic shifter in it... it will allow you to shift through the gears when you want and you can set it fot auto if you want.... a 6 speed trans is much longer and lots of fabrication will be needed to do this.. and if you dont fab yourself... fabrication=$ [/b]

I agree. when you get into the 6 speed realm you are dealing with thinner gears in the trans. I have a c4 in mine. Is it the best? No, but it will handle damn near anything i throw at it. Besides, when do you actually plan on getting into and fully using the 6th gear.

I would like to get into some of the shows and the cruises i hear about all the time but do it without breaking my pocket in gas..... the 6th gear will be great on the highway which is most of the driving i do anyways.... but it sounds as if the 5-speed is the best option... now just gotta find the money and the place to buy all the parts to convert from fmx auto to 5-speed.....lol i think i might hold off i am refinacing my house right now and im gonna build a garage and since i have that i think i am gonna go ahead with the frame up..... anyone wanna sponsor me....lol
