Boss 302

I looked at a 65 mustang this weekend and the guy selling it was saying the the engine was a Boss 302. Is there a web site that will break down the numbers on the engine. What numbers do i need and where are they located. I am suppose to go back out and look at it again this weekend and i would like to know something by than.

Are you just trying to tell if it is a real boss 302 or not if so then it will have screw in freeze plugs no exceptions and it will have a vin stamped on it wich I belive is on the underside of the block on the drivers side I belive. Becuase all boss motors were stamped with the vin of the car they were originaly in from the factory. But the screw in freeze plugs is the quickest and easyest way to identify a boss block

1 way to tell for sue is to look for the screw in freeze plugs which is simple. Ask him why the heck he put a boss motor in a 65 coupe? Doesnt make much sense, but if its real, you just got lucky bro!

Even if it is a Boss block, there in way to tell what the internals are.
It is an even bet that the engine has been rebuilt at some point.
Also make sure some of the easy to remove but costly to replace items are there. Valve covers, intake, rev limiter ect.

Thanks i am going to look at it this weekend again. I will have to check the VIN on the block and the freeze plugs. Is the freeze plugs just a BOSS thing? He bought the car with the engine in it and the seller told him it was a BOSS engine.

I highley dought that when they swaped the boss motor into the 65 coupe that they also put in the rev limiter because the rev limter was located on the drivers side shock tower and had wires runing to the engine
