What to do... ( New BOSS block )
Well I am planing to drop 4 to 5 grand into an engine for my 65 mustang this winter. I was thinking of just stroking a old 302 block out. Well I am reading one of my mags and I see that Ford racing had brought out a nice new 347 BOSS block. It's supposed to have better oiling and cooling, just better all around. So the first thing I was wondering is if it would just drop into my 65, I got a 351w in there now so I am pretty sure it will. The other thing is, is it really worth $1,649? I don't know I could probly put that extra grand to better use at other places. What are some of your all's opinions?

are you talking about fords brand new 302 boss block that can be stroked out to 363in??
http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...tKeyField=9085 because the short block is like 4500 bucks http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...tKeyField=9839 why dont you just stroke your 351 and build it up?

the boss is definitely worth the money .I just dont see the point of buying one if you arent in need of one. if you arent pushing the limits of the block you currently are using why spend the extra money.you could stroke that 351 to a 383,393,408,418 or put that money towards a supercharger

Because the 289/302 stroked has a shorter stroke than the 351, having a shorter stroke means you'll hit higher RPMs quicker allowing you to go into your next gear quicker. I also am not looking for more than 600HP for this build up right now.
Another reason I am not sure if I want to use the 351w is that it came out of a 76 LTD and I am not sure it's a good block to be building what I want to build up to. One more thing, I am looking at the add right now in muscle mustangs and fast fords. Page 135 there is a Mustangs Unlimited add with the new Ford Racing's BOSS 302 block for $1600 at the top of the page. Are you sure you wasn't looking at a crate engine price?

He was looking at a short block. It sounds like you are looking at just the block. You could get a roller block 302 (5.0).
