66 Mustang Coupe upgrades.

Okay so I get an email from my buddy at work about this 66' that he just bought. he has been saving money for awhile and found what he wanted and here it is.

http://www.futureclassicsnj.com/clos...%20cars&page=2

Heres a quick descrition of it.
1966 Ford Mustang - Rebuilt 302, Edelbrock RPM Intake, Holley Carb, Headers, Automatic, Power Steering, Power Drum Brakes, Fiberglass Cowl Hood, Nice Copper Paint, New Black Interior, AM/FM/CD Stereo, Wood Steering Wheel, Boyd Coddington Wheels, Nice Cruiser!

Soo, here's the questions. Lets start with the Drum brakes. what aftermarket kit will make those history while keeping the current bolt pattern and offset to retain the boyd wheels that are on there?
What about the power output. What do you guys think this rebuilt 302 is making if tuned right with that intake? What would be some easy power upgrades besides pulling the manifold for a roots blower. Looks to have been lowered but I have no idea what components are hiding under the body.

Bring on the mod ideas boys and girls. He has money to throw into it to finish it up so lets hear it.

Nice car! I'm not sure what hp numbers he would get, but I've heard that a built 302 gets 350 hp.

First let me say that is a sweet looking coupe. and i'm glad i stumbled onto this site. I am a big fan of modified mustangs!.

for brakes I run the SSBC Force10 kit on my 65 and it was a direct replacement for the drums. the kit i bought did not change the bolt pattern or backspacing.
i cannot post the link since its my first post but just google ssbc and you'll get to the site
if you are running 17" wheels which it looks like those are you can run the larger rotor version. it wasn't available when i bought mine.

as far as HP, not knowing what it has for a cam and head work its hard to say, but i would guess you are at about 200rwhp. and 230rwtq. before i added the procharger my car put down 210rwhp and 228rwtq. it is basically a mildly built 302. i would strongly recommend a blowthru setup from paxton or procharger vs. a roots style blower. i am very happy with mine. i have not brought my car back to the dyno. but there is definately a substantial power increase.

Wow, that is my car, and I appreciate you helping me out "italianbullitO"!

I am somewhat dissapointed with the lack of response people (but appreciate the response he did get) so lets get some more ideas on here!

I am a complete car noob and i am learning now. This is why i got a vehicle that was mostly already restored, would love to do some extra bits to it though.

Many things you can do. FIRST, tell him to fix the coolant leak at his t-stat housing before he burns up the motor.

You can get a matched power kit from Edelbrock that gives you alum heads, a cam, intake, and carb. Theyre all built to work with each other and will give you around 350 HP, depending on which kit you choose. You can view them at Summit racing, or edelborcks web site. Electric fan and H2O pump are also good for about 25 HP. Be carefull if you elect for a supercharger. Make sure you know the compression ratio on the motor, as anything over about 9:2 to 1 will blow you gaskets and cause all kinds of problems. 5 to 7 pounds of boost are good for the carb 302 motor and Paxton makes a GREAT supercharger. I would just stick to a non-charger motor with a good cam and other things that I listed. A good hyd cam w/ about a 276 to 288 duration will give years of good sound and great power for your ride!
Hope this helps!

Upgrade the brakes before you do anything to the engine.

It's called Rick's Car Care and the owner's name is (obviously) Rick... I highly recommend his shop to anyone on here. I've had my Mustang and truck in there multiple times to get an engine rebuild, alignment, brakes, hood pin install, etc... Mustang will be going back in soon to get a transmission rebuild.

His web site is:
