it doesn't cost much for a half decent rear end build.

I just replaced my entire rear end including install for 550.

if I would have upgraded to 33 spline it would have ran around a grand.

Could be worse. You could have 9 inches in your rear.

An 8 wil not hold 500hp. it may last a while if you have zero traction. it is common for an 8 to fail around 300rwhp. if you launch the car hard with that 347 and on some good tires, i am certain it will fail and in a short period of time.

since the 8 and the 9 look very similar the easiest way to tell is that the 8 has an oval shaped housing and the 9 is round. some 9s have a bump in the rear of the housing for the ring gear some do not. some have a fill hole in the housing others do not.

it could last the first time you take it out and dump the clutch at 2500rpm. or it could last a few years. who knows. if you have an automatic it will prolly last a bit longer. i've been lucky so far i only have an auburn pro 8 behind a procharged 302 thru a built C4. fortunately the 245/45 tires will just spin 1st thru 2nd. the thing is, the rear will hold up until you get some good traction then it will show you just how weak it is.
