1966 Mustang trans fluid

Hi there...
I normally stick to the S197 forums but I ventured over here to ask for help on my grandfather's '66 coupe!

Does anyone know what trans fluid the car originally takes? what grade an all? It's been so long, he forgot, and doesn't have the manual!

I just don't want to ruin the trans

Thats what I use in mine, but pretty much any dextron 3 will work no matter who makes it. I guess it's just a personal choice.

I believe it's either or.

and also that you shouldn't mix the 2 different types.

thanks for the input guys. Got the fluid, filled her up...

here's where the shitty part begins.

I try to start the car for the first time in a year...(my grandfather's too old to work on it by himself...) and finally after 10 minutes of priming and dieing...it coughs to life and starts running smoothly on its own...which in itself is a feat. (last summer it would die after you released the gas...)

So we're both excited cause the car might actually leave the garage for the first time in 3+ years under its own power and we're like "ok! sweet! lets turn off the car (by key...yes!), put more tranny fluid in (cause only 1 quart was in at that point), then turn her back on, check the level, and finally drive it. well. When I went to turn the key again, there was a loud 'click' and the key just turned in the tumbler. just spinning. like...just turning...

:lala :lala "this can't be happening...no :lala no :lala NNNOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!"

I'm going back on monday after he buys the part to fix the damn thing.
