They're only slightly better than 351W heads
If he gets 289 4v heads and do that to them, then they are alot better. The aftermarket heads are not much bigger and some of them are not any bigger.
Yes the 289 hi po heads are the way to go. I was just saying the heads on the 351W suck badly as well.

If you don't know much about carbs, stick with Holley or Demon. Edelbrocks are hard to tune, and they're not user friendly.

Are you driving it on the strip? It don't matter, you are just looking for more horses. Any carb can run on the strip.

buy a Holley 670 avenger from ebay for 249.00 (vacuum sec) with a purple spring, edel. rpm perf mani (200.00), set of 69 351W heads rebuilt (500.00), pertronix ign (85.00), and you'll be very happy with your perf. I wouldnt bother with a cam until you can rebuild the entire bottom end. Or if you know the history of the motor, youll need about 9.5-1 compression and good rings for a cam to really work ok. Just stick to the simple stuff and you'll have fun! Set your initial timing at 12 degrees, and you should feel a little more power as well. Good luck

351W heads can fit, but you have to make them fit. You need to drill a hole for the water. I would also jump up to 10 t0 1 flat top pistions.

4bbl holley street avenger would be a good start, along with full exhaust.
