Suspension and Steering help
Alright let me first start off by saying.... wow work sucks lol. Anit had time to get online alot lately.
So I go buy this complete suspension and steering kit. It says it's OE and it's for 64-66 v8. Well as some of you know I took a 6 out of my car and dropped in a 351w. Over the weekend I had 2 major problems. A) The tie rods I got in the kit are way, way too long. Like I lined up the outer ones (old and new) and the new ones are 4 inches longer than my old ones. I don't know but all I can guess is that the v8 cars in 65 had completely different steering systems, or they sent me the wrong steering kit with my suspension. I don't know really. so my question to you all was the steering on the I6's and v8's completely different? So I went ahead and grease up my old ones and put them back in since they weren't too bad off, after all they have held for the past 6 months. another 2 weeks shouldn't be too bad. Besides that the new springs and control arms are great, now my car sits more than 3 inches off the road. :] B) When going to replace the rear leaf I ran into a slight other problem. where the shackle bolts up to the frame ( bumper side ) well it's rusted so bad that I thought it was better to leave the old leaf spring in than try to beat them out and have the frame come apart on me. So my question is, is there a channel out there where I can cut out the old frame and then weld up a new piece or am I going to have to make my own parts. If I have to make it myself it's no problem, but I thought it'd be easier if I could just buy something and weld it up.

The great thing about the 66 Mustang is that there is a kit for just about anything you want. I am sure that there is a kit for something like that.
With your frontend, It could be the spindles. The V8's are not the same as an I6. One more thing, only the pitman arm is the same and the steeringbox. |
