Can a restored 1993 LX be considered a classic?

No. Classic is 1964 1/2 through 1973

A 1993 is a Fox Body

I will even say a Mustang 2 could be a classic.

That's funny... So many people call my 88' a classic. Yet it might not be a real classic car, it is definately almost 20 years old already, so it's up to you to decide wether a Fox Body is classic or not. ( I consider any car that doesn't need a smog check a classic! hahaha )

I'd say pre mustangII is classic. The mustangII ruined it for me.

You can make the Mustang 2 a very good car.

I have a couple of books that have titles like "Classic mustangs 1964-1973."

By the end of '73 the muscle car era was over, that goes for all makes not just Ford.

The early smog pumps, catalytic converters and other Federal emissions really wiped out horse power.
Insurance companies had targeted muscle cars for high rates and the Arab oil embargo had completed the picture.

Age does not determine a classic. It was origiality, styling and public appeal.

Gotta agree with oldschool on that. No matter how old our cars get. 73' pretty much ended the ol' skool era. Those were the heavy set all iron sheet metal mustangs. Heavy, but they moved

Here Mustang IIs are classics. They share lots of the samethings that the 64-73 Mustangs have. Some would say that a 73 is not a Classic. I say each into their own.

I welcome any Mustang IIs here.

A classic is in the eye of the beholder. If you want to call a mustangII or a fox body a classic I say go for it.
Classic = timeless

My comments had nothing at all to do with appropriatness to this forum.
You guys are a friendly bunch and it is fun to talk about mustangs with others that are interested.

Agreed classic = timeless.

Having said that, some things are a given.

Rare cars can be "collectable", same as postage stamps.
Rare does not equal classic.
The ford Edsel is rare. Nobody wanted them then, few now. Not a classic

There were well over a million mustangs by the end of 66.
Not rare in anybodys book, but a classic , yes.
It is a classic because it created a new class of car, the Pony car. They were a huge hit then and still are. A milestone, if you will. That is what makes them classic.

I love an old willys pickup, but it is not a classic, as it set no standard.

It could be a standard for luxury, power or styling.
Not trying to beat it to death but classic is determined by the time in history and the uniqueness when it was introduced.
At some point those special qualities will wear off, then the car is no longer a classic.

That is just my opinion and does not mean to put down mustang II's.

Its like saying that a stock 64 mustang was a hotrod. Its not, but some people think it is.
