Monte Carlo Bar

I just recieved a free 1965 Monte Carlo Bar for my 64 stang and I've trying to install it but it's not lining up correctly. I was wondering if anybody new wether or not I would have to get a bar specifically for a 64 stang....although I thought 64 and 65 stangs are pretty much identical

not sure what you mean by lineing up correctly. do you mean the way it sits on the shock towers?

I think the 65 is a bit wider then the 64. It may not work. If this is not the case, then you need to jack the frontend up. The shocktowers over time will cave in a little bit.

if you mean that the monte carlo bar seems a little short, and cant reach the shock towers, its supposed to be that way.. in some cases it is extremely hard and requires a little bit of work to get them to fit

Jack the frontend up where the lower control arms connect to the towers.

to get mine in just beat the crap out of thing with a rubber mallet but it went and looks fine. theres no scatch marks or anything and it works pretty well.
I also heard that you jack up the front end by the oil pan and the whole front end will boe a little and slids right it.

thats still a really bad idea man, haha..

when i was like 8 i tried to work on our '67 fastback and i jacked it up by the oil pan.

when i say i jacked the car up, i mean that in 2 different ways.

do what you want, but i highly recommend NOT jacking the car up by the oil pan, because you will end up jacking the car up. (by the oil pan)

catch my drift? lol

lif its too tight-ift up by the crossmember behind the front sump of the oil pan and after a day or so the shock towers will seperate and the bar will fit in.

if its too loose- then jack it up by the lower control arm to get the shock towers to bow inward.

the bolt holes don't always align perfectly and may take some ovaling out.

good luck
