Resto-Mod a 1970 Stang

I have a dream to Resto-Mod a 1970 Stang. Something along these lines but not quite as extreme http://www.carcraft.com/featuredvehi...ang/index.html Maybe do a Boss 302/351 clone. I wont be worried about matching numbers or keeping an original look under the hood. Im thinking EFI, CAI, Upgraded 5 speed tranny (would a 6 be possible?), and other modern mods like this. I want a car to take out and enjoy (not a trailer queen). Im just looking for ideas from you guys about what the best way to go about this is.

Should I look for a boss 302 or get a regular 70 stang and make it a clone? Would I be better off with the 302 or a 351? What sort of HP could i reasonably expect out of this car? What are the pros/cons of a 302 vs 351? Any info you guys would like to share would be helpful.

Let the discussion about my dream car begin.

What kind of condition is it in? I wish I had the money to buy it right now...but Im in the EARLY planning stages right now. What sort of work would you have to do to that car? Do you happen to have any pics of that one?

Sure hijack my dreamcar thread...lol j/k. Could you tell me what the differences are between the 69 and 70 boss? Also what engine would you guys recommend? I would like to be in the range of 350-450 HP.

I also had another idea and I know its sacrilege but what about buying a 70 Mustang vert and turn it into a sort of boss clone? I was thinking of doing the grabber orange and black color scheme with a black rag top. And swapping in a Boss 302. What do you guys think of that idea? Dont flame me too much for wanting performance and a vert...I live in San Diego and a vert is high on my list of priorities with a car like this.

There's no difference other than some slight chages to the body and grille, and minor interior differences. I wouldn't like Grabber Orange because that's a Chevy color...lol

A Boss 302 would be expensive, and you can get just as much power from a 351W. Save the Boss engines for the Boss cars. You could easily get that much hp out of a 351.

If you have the money, you could just buy one of these....

Ooops...which orange was the Ford color? I was thinking something like the mustang at the top of this site or like this color scheme http://www.mustangblog.com/index.php...-2007-mustang/

it says grabber orange.

I'm sorry, I was thinking hugger orange. Grabber Orange was a Ford color. It was a "U" code paint job I think.

i looked a little closer at the 70 boss today. isn't that well put together and is all modded out for drag racing IE. roll cage and such. it also says its got a fuel injected 302 so even if its an org boss 302 the engine is gone probably

Make a clone. Its must cheaper and you will not mod a boss. I would go with a 302 roller block. You may not get the horses, but it is quick horses.

I was looking around and I see that they put a 428 c/j in the mach 1's. Would it work to put this into a 69/70 vert or fastback? I really like the sound of the big blocks would this be possible to do with out doing serious fabrication?

Yeah you could put a 428 in a 69 or 70, but it takes a lot more money to make an FE motor go fast than a 351.

i saw somewhere up there that someone was looking for a 351, i have 2 clevelands in my garage, one 2v and one 4v if someone wants them. make me an offer. i have been working on a resto mod of a R Code car for 10 years, the motor is done at the shop today, with dyno sheet. my daily driver is a 07 gt, but my baby is my 70. i wouldnt trade either for the world. I also have a 390 if someone wants. We (father and son) have a 428 stroker motor built for the right price.

yes i am from Ok.

the 351s are both stock bore, i believe but both will need cleaning and boring.

i have the original 4v intake manifold and exhaust manifold as well.

the 4v is complete, the 2v is apart and came with a parts car. not real sure on the condition of the rods and crank.
