Resto-Mod a 1970 StangShould I look for a boss 302 or get a regular 70 stang and make it a clone? Would I be better off with the 302 or a 351? What sort of HP could i reasonably expect out of this car? What are the pros/cons of a 302 vs 351? Any info you guys would like to share would be helpful. Let the discussion about my dream car begin.

I also had another idea and I know its sacrilege but what about buying a 70 Mustang vert and turn it into a sort of boss clone? I was thinking of doing the grabber orange and black color scheme with a black rag top. And swapping in a Boss 302. What do you guys think of that idea? Dont flame me too much for wanting performance and a vert...I live in San Diego and a vert is high on my list of priorities with a car like this.

A Boss 302 would be expensive, and you can get just as much power from a 351W. Save the Boss engines for the Boss cars. You could easily get that much hp out of a 351. If you have the money, you could just buy one of these.... http://www.proformanceunlimited.com/ford.html

I'm sorry, I was thinking hugger orange. Grabber Orange was a Ford color. It was a "U" code paint job I think.

i looked a little closer at the 70 boss today. isn't that well put together and is all modded out for drag racing IE. roll cage and such. it also says its got a fuel injected 302 so even if its an org boss 302 the engine is gone probably

Re: Resto-Mod a 1970 Stang
Make a clone. Its must cheaper and you will not mod a boss. I would go with a 302 roller block. You may not get the horses, but it is quick horses.

I was looking around and I see that they put a 428 c/j in the mach 1's. Would it work to put this into a 69/70 vert or fastback? I really like the sound of the big blocks would this be possible to do with out doing serious fabrication?

Yeah you could put a 428 in a 69 or 70, but it takes a lot more money to make an FE motor go fast than a 351.

i saw somewhere up there that someone was looking for a 351, i have 2 clevelands in my garage, one 2v and one 4v if someone wants them. make me an offer. i have been working on a resto mod of a R Code car for 10 years, the motor is done at the shop today, with dyno sheet. my daily driver is a 07 gt, but my baby is my 70. i wouldnt trade either for the world. I also have a 390 if someone wants. We (father and son) have a 428 stroker motor built for the right price.

yes i am from Ok.
the 351s are both stock bore, i believe but both will need cleaning and boring. i have the original 4v intake manifold and exhaust manifold as well. the 4v is complete, the 2v is apart and came with a parts car. not real sure on the condition of the rods and crank.
