My Mustang

I was just looking at my car this weekend and thinking "Dam, I got a lot of money in it". Not counting the car, I think I got about $10,000 in it and I still have to do some body work and paint.

$3,000 in the motor of 1990 $
$600 for the 9" rearend
$1,200 for the new T-5
$350 for the Alm. flywheel
$250 for the steel bellhousing
$??? for the disc brakes
$100 for the gas tank

I don't know about $10,000, but it sure does seem like it sometimes.

How much money could someone spend on a car and how much does most people spend on their car?

All depends on the person.
Take me and my 4x4 for example
going out and playin in the mud, climbing sand dunes, pulling people out of ditches in the winter, cruisin around town, and havein people stop and gock at the red ram with the 37.5 inch tires as it rolls by =priceless.
I prolly got 6000-8000 in my ram and it's not even a classic, lol its a 99, everyday driver. :wink

To the best of my memory:

$1800 for body
$400 for 4 bolt main block
$400 for BOSS 302 heads
$1500 for other various parts (headers, BOSS crank, BOSS rods, 2 sets of TRW forged .030 over flat tops, 2 intakes, Griffin radiator and electric fan, 2 custom ground cams, more that I cant think of)
$300 for 850 Speed Demon carb
$65 for BG fuel line for Demon carb
$50 for MSD coil
$30 for new crossmember
$50 for motor mounts
$20 for Alternator bracket
$20 for belts and hoses
$500 for complete motor that locked up on me (bad investment)

Overall $ invested so far= $5135

Future costs:
$1500 for headwork from Keith Craft
?? for cleaning of block
?? for bearings and gaskets
$65 for seal kit for new C6 tranny
$500 for parts for new C6 tranny (hardened drums, hardened shafts, Full manual valve body, A1 Fairbanks 4000 stall)
?? for new driveshaft for auto tranny
?? for new shifter and cable for auto tranny

Cost of future mods so far= $2065

Over all projected cost of car= $7200 plus

And I told Mrs B when I started this project that it would just be @ a $4000 car. Sheeyahh, right!!!

Bossman........You know it will never stop there. $4,000, I don't think so.

I hate it when you have to fix something that you fixed before. I had a chrome gooseneck that would leak water. I resealed that thing over and over. It would still leak over time. I go one that was cast iron and sealed it once and it good. I liked the chrome one and still might go back to a chome one.

Yeah, I had actually intended on just buying the body and just putting a used 5.0 in it but I got the fever as soon as I got it and wanted to go all out. Go figure. LOL

With these Calssics, you can dump alot of money into them. You don't have to have seat belts or have to get in tested or anything. You do want you want with them. Just keep tail lights and head lights. Classic are easy to work on (most of the time). I think they look better too.

I've been told to get your estimates together, add them up, and then double it, and you'll be pretty close.

Me, I just stand back to look at the Black Jade Green mettalic 69 mach 1 and think, I deserve it, Don't Boat, Motorcycle, Hunt, Booze, Smoke, Fish, So what the heck. The other point to remember is all the other sports cannot geve you a good return on your investment when it is time to move on. I kept all the reciepts, but, do not look at them. Not that it doesn't matter, but you do only take this train ride once.

Mustangs have be so slow to go up, Really, just in the last 5 years have the started to go up. Not a very good 401k plan. There are some Mustangs that the price has gone up like mad.

If you work on your ride like I do, It can be worth it I built it for fun and love of the stang. you'll think I'm nuts but at a show on Sunday I turned down $30,000. that's a $10,000 profit. If my time wasn't free ya it would be hard to turn a profit.

my dad has a 1965 mustang with 21K in it
but he had a problem with one engine

but in total it was baout 20-21K he can easily sell it for double though

those older cars are worth alot fixed up, u could get $50,000 for it if it runs good, low miles and is in good condition
