Exhaust?

I see all these newer mustang guys talking about x pipes, and H pipes, and all kinds of crap. Do these have a benifit? My mustang, has a tube coming off each header straight out the back. So would it make any difference?

I stand in the minority on this is the classic world, but x-pipes FTW. Most people like H-pipes on classics, but I love the sound of a x-pipe.

oh and it equalizes exhaust pressure on both sides and can add hp.

Just get under there and look. If you have one, it will be pretty self explanitory.

h or x pipes give you a stedy 8 cylinder sound.it also equilizes the back pressure on both sides.

The H pipe is for dual exhaust, therefore it will have two mufflers. Somewhere between the headers, and the mufflers there will be a tube running straight across to connect the two sides together, so it looks like an H.

An X-pipe is the same thing, but instead of a pipe connecting the two sides together, both sides angle in towards the middle of the car, and meet forming an X.

A Y-pipe is for a single muffler. It comes out as duals, and behind the headers, one side comes to the other, and the side they meet on looks like a Y, it goes back in a single pipe from there.

exhaust

The h or x pipes are important to allow equalization of backpressure gasses.
If you are running duel exhaust without some kind of crossover the engine will be fighting itself due to unequal exhaust pulses in different cylinders. The equalizer pipe,x pipe ,h pipe lessons this & improves overall engine operation.

is the actual h pipe cross over anything special? If I cut a tube to length and drilled out the other two exause pipes and welded them together in the middle would that be same thing?
