Sounds like a grounding problem.

if the engine starts and want shut off your problem may be the ign. switch.if the starter want stop spinning you may have wired wrong,or the starter is stuck.

I've had a similar problem. I could completely disconnect the ignition switch and the car would remain running. Try smacking the starter solenoid with a screw driver when it stays on after removing the key. That would at least eliminate a sticky solenoid. Also, make sure ALL of your starter electrical connections are clean, especially ground.

If it is an emergency, just unplug the coil.... but maybe put the old coil back in to see if you still have the same problem, if no then you have a bad solenoid.
Was the replacement solenoid made in China? hahaha
