i honestly think that if your gonna spend $800 on a set of cast heads why not just buy a gently used set of trickflows. There's some in the classifieds section right now that I saw.

I use the world Products heads on all my real motor's... But I though we was on budget.

Aluminum Heads are a Live metal. They cant take excessive heat or abuse for long time. Head gasket failure is the main problem with Aluminum heads.

All of our highend race motors all use a good cast iron head. They will last a full season.

The pro comp heads that I quoted are the best for low cost. Complete heads for under $800.

I can tell you a how build to make your 289 have 400 hp with no stroke, But your have $3k Limit and you need to drive this car for everyday driver? The build that I showed can be driven every day stay cool with a 4 row 18" radator. And have Power.

when i get to it ill probably end up stroking either the 302 or 289. i was just curious on the world products heads. the car isn't a daily driver i want it to be a street/strip car. able to be driven on the weekends and have some fun. so your suggestion with the 331 is what ill most likely go with when its time

The 331 is to best bang for the buck. It will get you the power that you really want, Run Cool. And will live a long time.

What else you need? Good Luck

I am running a set of Roush 200 iron heads on a 393W. These were made by World Products and they have 200cc intake ports, 2.02/1.60 valves. This engine is not in a Mustang but rather in a 75 Bronco. I am also running an NV3550 5-speed and 4.10 gears with 35" tires. You would not believe the way this pulls in 2nd and 3rd gears. The motor has 10.5:1 compression, a Comp Cams Xtreme Energy hydraulic cam, long tube headers and a 750 Holley dual feed, vacuum secondary carb. This would make a great street motor in a much lighter Mustang.

and also you can spray this motor. Just remember the more power you make the easier it is the find your weak links in your drive train. with 190 cc heads you need to go with a flat top piston to get 10.5 compression. with set up I would use a 3:55 gear for you rearend. and fit a 27" tall tire or bigger under your 1966 stang. Good Luck

haha my first post. i really like this set up you have listed, but i was wondering if you had more money to spend, say 5000. would you change any of the parts? reason i am asking is because i'm about to get started on my 65. the only thing i know about the 289 in it now is the cam is a roller cam. dont know though. anyways how much spray and that combo take?

Welcome wwpms6 !!!

The build I posted is a great sb ford build, For the 1965 - 66 cars we limited by the amount of room we have. a 351 w style motor is my favort motor build We build a 427 stroker motor that can just get crazy. The 351w will just fit in a 1965/66 but there is NO! room left. Witch I dont Like.

On the 331/347 sb ford build you can raise the compression and go with a more aggressive cam but you need to know how you want to drive this car. What we are trying to do is make the best of both worlds Everyday driver and perform. I need to know witch end you want to be closer to.

it wont be an everyday driver. it'll be a weekend car that see's the strip a lot. it mini tubbed with 9 inch rear 3.70 gears. right now it has a c4 but i have been thinking of 5 speed swap, or a more built c4. i was looking at building a 347, but after reading i really like the 331, just wondering what i could build with 5000.

The only real change I would do is go with the World Products Windersor SR 200 Heads. They are cast iron and will last a long time.
Cost $424 Ea. From Jegs

If you are going to Drag Race I would stay with the C4
you can get manual valve body in reveres pattern so you can use the bump shifter.
Cost from Jegs is $1,106 Auto or manual Shift.

Depends on your Cam.

Comp Cams im listing
COM-35-620-5 576/592 272/280 106 LC needs a 2500 RPM stall Very Rouge Idle
COM-35-226-3 512/512 280/280 110 LC Needs a 2000 RPM Stall Rouge Idle < the 1 I use in the 427 Stroker

Cams with lift over .560 need to run dual Springs on the heads.

Wont you also have to build up the rear end and transmission to handle the extra power?

That would be the correct way to do it. It is funny not one ever does till the tranny, Drive Shaft, Or Rear End goes away.

Most of the time they will get away with it, until they put a pair of slicks on it.

How the hell do you get a 351w in there? I know you sure as hell wont have room for any kind of headers. Do you have to bash on the shock towers a bit or what?
