We are not talking about a 351W, We are talking about Stroked 302.

The most common is a 347 Stroker Motor.

I was under the impression you could not fit a 351w in the stock bay without modifications, or am I mistaken?

it's a bit tall, so you can hide it if you have a raised scoop or something. and that's only for the 64.5, 65s and 66s, i believe the 67+ will fit it without any problems.

351W ,It Will go in a 1965/66. But There is NO ROOM! But yes it will go in. It is to wide

I have done it 2 times. But !!! I REALLY Dont like it in there. I sure do hope I have cleared this up.

I do like a 347 in a 1965 / 66. Unless We remove the shock towers
Then we can do any thing.

I am building a 1965 Coupe for Pinks All out, with a Mustang II front suspension and no shock towers with a 429 SCJ and C6.
That is really a neat ride. I will post photos of this build.

Yeah, I wanted to do the Mustang II front suspension, but my Uncle got his damn panties in a bunch when I proposed the idea and said, "Now now here Son, you leave that car all original and it'll be worth something someday." I understand the mentality, but I don't plan on ever selling it, and I DO plan on driving the living shit out of it. Not driving your car is like having a sexy wife and not fucking her.

why fool with the 351 and no room to work, when you can drop a 302 in and make a lot of horses?

Fits like a glove. The problem with most early Mustangs is the shock towers start to sag inward over time, especially if the factory braces are removed. What I've done is put the front of the car on jackstands to let the suspension hang and pull the tension off the shock towers. A port a power works nice to push the shock towers back to where the should be. A 351W drops right in. I've used 289/302 headers and also specific 351W headers. The 289/302 headers required minor work because they are designed for an 8.2 deck height but 15 years ago I couldn't find any engine swap headers for this combination. Once the shock towers are back where they should be there is plenty of room to work. You can get at all the spark plugs just like a normal car and everything fits under the stock hood even with a Victor Jr intake.

There are guys that put 429s and 460s in these cars with stock front suspensions.

Aluminum Heads are a Live metal. They cant take excessive heat or abuse for long time. Head gasket failure is the main problem with Aluminum heads.

All of our highend race motors all use a good cast iron head. They will last a full season.

The pro comp heads that I quoted are the best for low cost. Complete heads for under $800.

I can tell you a how build to make your 289 have 400 hp with no stroke, But your have $3k Limit and you need to drive this car for everyday driver? The build that I showed can be driven every day stay cool with a 4 row 18" radator. And have Power.

I'm curious as to how much power your "highend race motors" make and what cast iron heads you use? I don't agree with your head gasket statement about aluminum heads. I've run aluminum heads for years and never had a head gasket failure that wasn't attributed to a lean condition from nitrous oxide or boost. I've never had a head gasket fail on any of my naturally aspirated engines. I mostly use Cometic gaskets and have the block and heads machined per Cometics recomendations but I also use Felpro 1011s on small blocks with no problems. Hundreds of factory production engines are using aluminum heads and/or blocks these days too with no head gasket problems.

Save a little more money and do what I did with my stock bottom end 289....Throw a Vortech Supercharger kit on it and receive (depending upon other mods) 330 rwhp-350 rwhp. Thats near or on 400 crank hp you wanted.
I love the look I get from people when I tell them its a supercharged 289! But I will forwarn you, throwing in that kind of HP and Torque will cause you to upgrade many more areas (suspension, brakes, cooling...and the list goes on!) than you first anticipated.
But my friend...its all worth it if your willing to jump in!

Good Luck
