71 Boss? . But i am confused on some of the information that i have found and what my grandpa has said. He says that it is a 302 boss. But from what i have found on the internet the boss' only came in a 351. So i am at a loss of words on what is right.....

Could be both, could have swapped the motor =p
Easiest way to check what it had originally is to check the tag. My book only goes up to 70 though, so you might have to search the world wide intarwebs to find out edit: Here ya go 71 Mustang VIN decoder

There was 2 Boss 302 71's made but they where prototypes and both had their motors swaped out for 351's and re vined so it sure isnt a Boss 302 71
the Boss 351 that year has a R in the 5th digit in the Vin It sounds like a regular 302 2V Fastback But if its not even a fast back it most certainly isnt a Boss at all |

The easy thing is What Motor is in it? What is the 5th digit in the vin number? Does the thermastat housing coming up from the block or off the intake? With this info we can tell you alot more about your car. Photo would be great. I would like to see the tail light panel and the engine in the photo.
Good Luck, I hope you have a ture rare find. Be a nice store to tell. |

Ford actually did offer a 1971 boss 429 for the beginning of production, but quickly dropped it. I'm not sure how many 1971 Boss 429's were made. But I know for a fact a few were......
Anyway somebody could have easliy taken a 302 boss engine and dropped it into your grandfather's 71. He could just be mistaken and it could be a boss 351.
