Hello
I pulled a 302 and a c4 out of a 1970 ford E300 and put them in my 1967 ford mustang. After all the rebuilding and new parts were said and done I finally got to tinker with it drivable and it won't shift into third gear. The engine and trans were both rebuilt shortly before the van sat ten years ago. The engine had a remote oil fill and that sucked in a lot of water over the years. When I dismantled it I had to do a lot of sandblasting and I replaced a lot of the valve train. The transmission however, was perfectly nestled in the middle of the van. The previous owner had broked the shifter linkage when he accidentally slammed it into park. He replaced the linkage, but had the manual valve adjusted incorrectly. He only got it to go into first gear after his struggle. When I dabbled into it I thought the only thing I had to do was reinstall the valve body. I did so and I get first and second out of it, but it never shifts into third. If you let off the gas, even at a descently high speed it just coasts. After talking to quite a few people and recalling memories from a few months ago, I remember seeing a ball bearing on the driveway after working on the transmission. At the time I didn't think anything of it, however now I wonder. My question is this. Are there any check balls that install between the valve body and the transmission or could one have come out of the valve body?
Thanks
