650 CFM is to big for a stock cam and heads with a stock intake. I say get a nice street cam and a new intake and get a holley 600. You should also get your heads reworked and put chevy valves in. That will make your 289 a hot little motor.

Holley 600 would be adequate for your combination

i would not touch a holley they are not that great of a crab......but i would go with a 600 cfm edelbrock......but a 600 might still be a little much for a stock 289...you can always over carb your motor....i had a 302 and tried to put a 750 double pumper on it and every time i started it up a big flame came out of my carb so i had to cange it for a 600

Demon FTW. I loved my Demon . It was by far the best carb I've ever had.

Holley is a good carb. I had one that was junk, but that was one. Even the junk one would go when it was working right. I found a guy that is really good with holleys so that is all I will go with now.

Holleys are great carbs and demons are built using a holley platform

I've never had a problem with a holley either, and they're cheaper than the demon.

I have the Edelbrock 600 on my stock 289, and it works just fine. You will get mixed answers on this all day, and in the end it boils down to what you want. Holley's are usually what the race track Guys like, and Edelbrock are great for daily drivers. On my carb, you can change the needles and jets, and never take the carb off the car.

Well there ya go, looks like either one will be a good decision, it's up to him to decide which one he wants now.

Thanks for all the feedback. It seems the Holley is a bit more popular, but I probably won't be disappointed with a Holley, Edelbrock or a Demon.

comp cams cam with mid-high 400's lift, a weiand stealth intake manifold, and you could maybe port your heads, then go for a holley 670 cfm street avenger carb. easy (not cheap though, not for my wallet anyways) 100+ horses
