289 cam vs 351 cam

I have an early 289 5 bolt engine that has been hopped up a bit, i know it has 351 heads and roller lifters and it also has trip 2 bbl carbs, the engine runs real strong with no problems but when i was replacing the dist cap for routine maint i noticed the firing order was 13726548 not the 15426378 that it should have been, my question is could this engine possibly have a 351 cam? i know the 13726548 firing order is for a 351 and 5.0 but is the 351 cam a direct fit in a 289, unfortunatly the po has died and i have no further info. The engine does have a heafty lope at idle.
Thankyou for any info
Kenn

Welcome to the forums.. I would ask this in the 5.0 section as it will likely get answered much quicker.

I would say you're right. All the small block cams are interchangable, and the firing order is different between the two engines.

The 289 ,302, 351 Can share the same cams lifters, Heads,Motor Mounts and on 66 and newer 289's with 6 Bolt bell housing can share the same tranny and fly wheel up til 1977. 28oz motors

The 351 Cam is what we use in our builds
