weird noise!!!
Got it runnin and it sounds good except for one thing. Ive got this popping noise while its running. It was doing it alot while I was adjusting my carb and I thought I got it all right but every once in a while it popsw and I know for sure its not bad plugs or wires. It might be my distributer out of time or my be its the air/fuel mixture.Dont know but if I cant figure it out Im goint to change my dame intake and carb to a 4-barrel. I need a tach so I can set my idel and going to change my points to electric points by IGNITOR so I dont have to adjust it any more.
any Idea what it might be?The sounds coming from the end of headers.

Is it open headers? If so are they long tubes or shorty headers?

That popping noise
Hey Bossman,
My bet on that popping noise is that you will find you have a header leak. I check my header bolts (to the block) a few times a year because they have a tendency to loosen up....no matter how tight you think you got them. The other spot is at the collectors. A leak at either collector will produce a popping sound...and the type of popping is just a matter of how big the leak is. Unless you spend a few extra bones on the good collector gaskets, they get brittle after awhile and a good bump or scrape on a speedbump and they break at one spot or another. Just my two cents. Would like to know what you end up finding. |

Well tha car has been sitting for 5 years and Im pretty sure the gaskets are brittle but it would be makeing the noise all tha time. They are long tube headers. and when it pops it sounds like it echos through the muffler and its on the passenger side only.may be the valves are sticking and maybe it has build up from the old oil.I might take some SEA FOAM and run it through the motor first.Ill keep yall informed on what it is.

put half quart of atf in your oil.run it at about 2500 rpm for 20 minuts. see if it stops the noise.
