Just bought a 1965 coupe!
For $2,000 i bought this 289. Its not bad considering it mostly just needs body work. I have the original title, plus the motor and transmission have been completely rebuilt, which the numbers actually match the car. It's a giant rust bucket right now but I'm thinking in about a year I'll have everything done. I'm planning on keeping the interior white and making the exterior black with white stripes. Other than changing the paint I want everything to be stock. Hopefully all goes well. I'll be on here a lot more often now because this is my first restore and I have lots of questions and I know I will need lots of help. Here are some of the pics of it.

Put newspaper in the front seat floorboard section by the firewall and then put a garden hose (low pressure!) on the cowl intake and see if water leaks. More than likely the paper will start to get wet. If it does then I would recommend pulling the carpet up and seeing how bad the floors are.
Jack up the car and pressure wash everything. Check to see if there are rust spots and probe them with a screw driver. Make a list of all rust areas and , believe me, you will find more as you start repairing/replacing sections. The cowl repair will be a pain if you drill out all the spotwelds. Just take it 1 step at a time and it will get done! Car looks good! Good luck and keep at it! Our project Christophers 66 Mustang Restoration and Modification |

thanks! i already stripped out the entire car. i took out all the seats and all the carpet. i was vaccuming the leaves and lose rust and as i was vaccuming chunks of the floor board were coming up with it. lol i need to check for leaks though, never even thought of doing that.. see that's why i need you guys. lol

Ouch, if the floor board steel is bad then that means water is getting in. The cowl leaks on 90 percent of these cars because Ford decided to leave bare metal inside the cowl on the "tophats". Also check the corners of the windows as a leak source.
You can not put it together until the water leaks are stopped. There are lots of web sources on how to do the cowl repair if it needs repairing. |

oh wow. that's good to know. yeah then i'm pretty sure there is a leak.. it's been raining a lot lately but i haven't had time to look inside the car. as far as i can tell though, all of the floor boards need to be replaced. but that would be smart to do AFTER i find out where the leaks are. another factor might be that the people i bought it from left it sitting for a couple of years with nothing covering it. thanks for the advice!!
