351C Oil pressure

I have a pinto with a 351C in it. It run's 80lbs of oil pressure at idle, but when you snap the throttle the oil pressure goes down instead of up. It seem's to be very unstable off of idle. any suggestions would be great. I have put new oil in and still has the same problem. I am running royal purple 5-30 Thanks Kevin.

My brother had a Pinto with a 351c back in the 70's, raced it in Tx, cool car hot motor. Any oil leaks? probably not...how old is the oil pump? new...have you checked you spark plugs? have you done a compression test? have you done a vacuum check? Those are the things I would check, it could be a bad oil pump, piston rings, valve stem seals or as simple as an oil passage screw not being tight. It would be interesting to see what a vacuum test would show... Good luck with it

You might have to look at your oil pick up and see it is blocked.

It sounds like it running out of oil.

if the pickup tube screen is tight to the oil pan it will do that.

Thanks for the help. The motor is pretty new. it has around 30 1/8 mile passes on it. I am running a mechanical guage that is why it concerns me. Thanks again Kevin.

Has it done this ever since the rebuild or did it just start?

I run 2 oil pressure gauges. Mechanical under the hood & electric inside so I can compare the two.
