429 In A 1973 Mustang Convertible

I have a 73' mustang convertible with a 302. i want to replace it with a 429 and a buit c6 tranny. I purchase a ENGINE INSTALLATION KIT, C6 Cross member for 1967-1973 Mustang, 1967-1973 Mustang/Cougar transmission insulator, C6 or 4 spd. I am new to this so any information would help as far as replacing the engine. sort of a step by step guide. thanks for any help. and does anyone know of a good speed shop near blairstown NJ?

They actually make a kit to put the 429 in a non 429car? Aren't the struts actually in a different location on the 429 cars? I coiuld be wrong.

re: 429 In A 1973 Mustang Convertible

I pulled up the dimensions on both v8's

weight width length height
302 460 lbs 24 29 27.5
429/460 720 lbs 27 34 29
(ex. boss)

so it's 1 1/2 inches wider on either side not mush longer or heigher. the only great difference I see Is the weight. I have to find out about the shock towers

if your going to put a 429 in your car that would be sweat.....but it may be a little tight around the shock towers....it may be a little more hasle when you want to change the spark plugs....i can get a 460 for $200 and the only reason im not wanting to get it and put it in my 69 stang is the space between the shock towers

the 71 -71 mustangs were specifically designed for the 429 big block. I have a 72 with a 460 (stroked ti 532) The only thing you will have to do change the front springs to handle the weight. (other small things like motor mounts also. It should fit fight in and have enough room to get to the plugs and everything. Headers will even fit fine. I have a picture of me somewhere where I am actually sitting in the engine compartment, haha. (no motor) Emissions laws killed the big block for Ford in 71, thats the only reason the 72 and 73 models didnt get them. But they were designed for them. Hope that helped

If you need a set of headers let me know. I have a set of Hooker Super Comps for that Stang.
