302 Starter


I am having a helluva time with the starter on my 302, it will make a grinding noise on and off, tried shimming it many different ways, just cant get it to stop.

did you use a 158 tooth fly wheel or a 161 tooth?

did you use a newer type of auto trans?

about 1977 the fly wheel was made larger so if you use the old smaller fly wheel and
newer bell housing it will just hold the starter out a little from the fly wheel.
