66 mustang cooling and electrical problems

My mustang is a 1966 with a 289. Recently I added edelbrock performer cylinder heads, a performer plus cam, performer 289 intake manifold, and a performer 600 cfm carb. In addition to this, I had the engine rebuilt and it is bored .060 over. I have a 4 row standard radiator with a fan shroud and a stainless steel flex fan. However, after receiving my car back from the shop, it is running very hot and even overheating. I can't drive it very far. I understand that engines are supposed to run a bit hot when they are rebuilt until they break in but i dont think they are supposed to overheat. Also, recently the amps gauge read all the way at the D mark, then even more recently the amps gauge read all the way at the C mark. This causes my car to stall out and stuff. Does anyone have any advice for these issues?

Sorry to hear.

Ok just a few things ,

A 65-66 Radaitor is to small to handle a .060 over motor, But we are here now. I had a .060 1965 Mustang. These are things i did to it. northern Aluminum Radiator, 17" agressive flex fan, 160deg thermastat 3 1/2 fan shroud, water wetter additive, and a 1965 R modal front valance. With these I could drive it in the summer time. But could not drive it in town to long.

Just keep in mind for the others reading this. on a 1965/66 Try to always stay .030 or under. and you will not have this problem.

How hot is it getting? Boring .060 is a lot and is more than likely causing the problem because of the thin cylinder walls. Your best bet will be a good aluminum radiator, and ditch the flex fan for some good electric fans. Be careful getting those heads real hot because they will warp.

The ammeter should not be running on the C, and it could be a voltage reulator problem.

Yeah, I originally did the heads on my own but accidentally put one on backwards so I just took it to a shop to have them do it cause it took me a really long time to do the first time on my own. I will try the new radiator thing and a bigger shroud. Any suggestions on aluminum ones?
