Console

I have been thinking about making a custom console for my 67. I am not paying 500-1K for one when I can make one myself. Has anyone done this before?

You mean the deluxe console? And I'm thinking about doing the same thing with my cluster, $1300+ to get one with a tach...for like 3 pounds of plastic. Or $1000 for a piece of metal with a sliding door. Some Mustang parts make no sense

Yes, I am going to make mine from fiberglass and put Air/Fuel gauge and Tach in it. My grandfathers 66 has a console and I am going to get the dimensions off of it to make mine. I am also going to add cup holders to it.

I want the gauges similar to how the old camaros had the 4 in the console

I see, that's pretty crazy. I can't make many suggestions but good luck. You don't like the look of the 67/8 cluster though? That thing's a dream man. And the 66 and 67 consoles were quite different so that might be a job.

Here is a rough drawing of what I want it to look like. Gauges under radio, 2 cup holders, and like an ash tray coin holder.

It can be done, but it'll take a lot of time and precise measurements. Good luck, and keep us posted on how it turns out.

Ok, I just finished up the measurements for the console. Hopefully tomorrow I will be going to get some foam to cut and shape into the mach of the console. Then once that is finished I will be transferring it to wood. I am still looking at which 2 gauges are going 2 be put in, but it looks like a 2 5/8 in tach and air/fuel gauge.

Update: Went and got some foam to work with. 8 dollars at lowes for 6 sheets. Going to fiberglass hopefully sometime this week.

Welll the fiberglass didn't work. So I threw it away. Made come covers to force more air in the radiator with the extra fiberglass I had last week. Just finished my 2nd mach of the console today. I am getting this one made of metal by a guy my dad knows. Here are some pics of both the covers and the console. The new console is smaller than the old one. Also give me some opinions. I want any opinions, good or bad.

My car is like a test subject at a lab... I try anything custom I think I can make for the car. Like the front corral, the stripes on my turn signal hood not put on yet, push start, my toggle switch.
