Edelbrock 600CFM

I have a 600CFM on my stock 289 i also have a edelbrock performer on it. When i hit the gas all of a sudden the engine dies. I have a stock fuel pump could this be the problem.

it's has an electric choke. I'll check the line and see if there is anything blocking the fuel line. Thanks

I really don't think its the fuel pump. I would think that its more likely your carb is not set up right for your set up.

make sure you jet your carb right and make sure your choke is working. let the car idle for 5 minutes then floor the gas. if it doesnt die, you've found your problem, it lies in the choke .

Is the carb new or was it sitting awhile. If it was sitting then the accelerator pump plunger may be bad and not allowing the fuel to spray in when you first hit the gas. A good way to tell is to take the air cleaner off and look down the carb to see if fuel is actually being shot into the engine (the engine does not have to be running to do theis) if it is not then you need to get the carb repaired, if it is then there is a problem somewhere else.

just to explane a little more, because if it didnt die after warming up, it means the reason it was dying cold was because the choke wasnt working correctly.

Does it die before or after the secondaries open? Could be running too rich. Also another thought, have you flushed/replaced the gas tank? Sounds stupid but could be filled with crap.
