Banging in my engine

My buddy and I just pulled the transmission on my 67 (automatic, 3 speed, 200 i6) and put it back in. When I turned it on I heard a loud banging noise that varied with the speed of the engine. I could not locate the source, I thought it might have been a rod but its not, and it sounded like it was coming from the back of the engine. I thought it might be something with the transmission. Could the engine's shaft get bent and cause that, or is there something else? I can't figure it out.

sounds like the shield between the engine and the trans is being hit by the flywheel or its bolts.

did you remember to tighten the torque converter nuts?

is the flexplate (flywheel) cracked, I have often seen that mistaken for a bad bearing

Torque converter is, not seated, aligned with the drain plug in a open hole.
those are the 1st two thing I would look at.
