What to look at when buying a classic mustang?

My friend is interested in a 68 mustang he found on craigslist. 68 Mustang
We plan on going soon to take a look at it. What are everyones suggestions as far as questions to ask the owner and what to look for?

My two concerns are that we check the floor pans for rust seeing as we are up north. My second one is why would you dropped 7,000 under the hood and not take care of something as simple as a carb.

Any input is appreciated.

The common rust spots in a Mustang are...........EVERYWHERE...lol

Look in the trunk, torque boxes, doors, around tail lights, around the back window, frame rails, pretty much just inspectthe whole thing with a fine tooth comb.

Carbs, or rather the gaskets can go bad from sitting.. & some people start with the motor & do the body later. So if it sat arround much the carb probably needs a simple kit.

floors are a big one too.... see if u can pull up the capet and check the drivers side floors under the peadals .. also ask the the vin and make sure that hes got the right engine in that.... we had a mustang (66 fastback)(in shop class) that had the floors almost all rotten/rusted out... and another thing i found wrong with ours is that the oil pain was crushed in from people jacking it up there *(stupid highschool students that dont give a rats azz)

Like they said, rust will be your enemy. When I restored my dad's 66 there was about twice as much rust as I initially thought. Whatever rust you find, expect there to be about twice that.

thanks for the tips, I knew rust would be the biggest problem, just hoping there isn't so much that he would have to deal with it right away.
