haven't started the barely-running coupe in 7 months

Hey guys, alright I've got a little over a month left in Afghanistan and we're getting packed up to leave. I had my car in storage the whole time and meant to tell the storage people to start my car once a month, but in the rush to get everything stored (got everything to the storage place the day before we left) I forgot my keys were still in my pocket and didn't even mention the car-starting thing to them. So since we've been here it hasn't been run. The thing is, it was on it's last legs before it went into storage, I mean after 15 minutes it'd go from firing on all 6 cylinders down to 4 literally almost every time I drove it, which forced me to pull out the plugs, wipe them down and tap the buildup/oil off of whichever ones stopped firing. It was obviously in need of a repair but I didn't have the money to help it. Now I just acquired a fastback for a reliable driver (and cause I like them even more than the coupes), but my coupe is still gonna have to come out of storage when I'm back. I literally parked the thing and left, that's it. Battery's still connected, tank's still full, pretty much everything you shouldn't do to a car if it's gonna sit for a while I did.

So what should I do? I'm not gonna have to drive it for a while so there's no rush to get it running again soon, but should I get it towed out of storage and directly into a shop (or somewhere to let it sit until I can afford to put it in the shop)? And I don't know much about blocks at all, but is a 41 year old 6cyl with over 200,000 miles on it recoverable? I'd like to keep that block really. Thanks for any help guys

With 200k on it, it is probably time for a complete rebuild.
Unless you want a performance engine I would get a long block.
Or take it to a local engine rebuilder

Take jumper cables & a couple of gals of fresh gas with you and try to start it up.

Get your ass HOME! Then,
I would take to to a shop, have a tune up on it done.
Add pertronics to it and change the oil.

When the 6 in my mustang blew the POs bored it out. It runs good. Adding pertronix is also a good idea. I did that to mine.

Would the gas still be good in there if it has been sitting?

Sweet, so it is recoverable. Now all I gotta do is figure out where to put it when it runs. That's easy enough, as long as my cars are working- or at least in as good condition as when I bought them (for the coupe...it ran, that's about it, so not too hard to meet requirements there) I'm content.

You in Pendleton or over on the east coast?? If Pendleton we should link up, help each other with the rides. My ride seems to develop more problems than I can keep up with, so if you're like me I'm sure you wouldn't mind a little help here and there.

haha sweet 460, your engine was literally the one I had in mind when I said I wanted to keep the block. I had no idea what condition yours was before you built it up, but if yours was even worse than mine then that's pretty motivating for my situation. And puppynut, I'm in Lejeune, sorry. What kind of stang do you have though? It'd be nice for help with cars like ours locally but I even felt cool pulled over on the road working under the hood when something went wrong just because of how sweet the car was so I can't complain. Plus my Coupe's given me nothing but problems since day one, almost 5 years now but it can all be taken care of- even temporarily if you can't afford to fix it. What unit are you with? And how long have you been in Pendleton?
