Oil Pressure...

I have a 69 Mustang Coupe with a 302 and lately my oil pressure gauge has been reading low when I'm idling or driving slow.

I recently blew a header gasket that I haven't replaced yet, I don't think that would affect it but I could be very wrong.

Anyone have any idea?? The oil level is fine. I'm running 10w-30 full synthetic if that makes any difference.

Thanks a lot.

Where are you and how hot is it?
Maybe try 10W-40W during the summer

I'm in Oceanside near San Diego... it gets a max of 90 here.

So if my car is running hot it will cause the oil pressure to drop??

As it heats up, the oil gets thinner, therefore giving you less oil pressure. Has it always been like this, or did it just start happening? Where is the gauge running when you consider it low, because they will run more towards the low side of the gauge than the high side of the gauge? I hate that Ford doesn't put numbers on factory gauges.

Well I always considered it fine as long as it was about a quarter way up from the first line... The last few weeks when I'm idling it will chill right above the line and not move above until I get moving.

Yeh I can't wait to put a new dash and better gauges in later.

hey do u have a bad pump, lifter if u hear a ticking sound not sure if it is a lifter but 4 cyl in my friends jeep had one or two bad lifters and it dropped the oil pressure at idle but when she revs it up or driving it goes up. and a bad head gasket would lower but barely you wouldn't see a diff. check your back seal on the crank.

I would go with the manual gauge as well, that way you know where you at. I second the 10w 40.
