65 mustang auto transmission

i got a 65 289 car. it was restored bout 15 years ago and i drive it almost everyday. this afternoon on the way home it stopped pulling in drive. you can shift to second and it would do just fine. it acts like its slipping. how hard are these to rebuilt yourself? how much should i look to pay for a rebuild kit, and what are some things i want to look out for? thanks. oh yea i checked fluid and it is full but when ya wipe the dip stick off you can see fine metal shavings on the rag.

Metal shavings are not a good sign. Major overhaul time.
Where are you?

The trans is not hard to rebuild, but for your first one if there is a problem, its not any fun putting the trans in and out of the car while you try and fix the problem.

i'm in al. well i decided to do it my self and it's really not that bad. only one thing! on the forward shift drum where the clutchs go, the end is stripped off. that means it was only using 2 clutch plates to pull the car. how hard is it gonna be to find this part?

I would say 7 quarts in the trans and 3 in the torque converter.

You can't just add 10 to it, Add 1 to the converter and 6 in the trans then start to add the rest to full.
