C4 tranny shifts

I have a 1968 coupe with a J-Code 302 and a c4...

my c4 seems to be shifting roughly 4-4200 rpms...

ok so ive done some research and found the 302 is more of a high rpm motor and ive also found that they make max hp at roughly 4800 rpms...should my trans be shifting higher? how do i change it?

(i havent owned this car to long but the previous owner told me they put a new valve assembly in the trans...and there is this box that i think is a rev limiter...)

If your talking about Drag racing, Just shift manually.

Im sure you drive this car every day.

A stock 302 runs best from Idle to 5000 rpms. max hp of 225 hp for a 4V in a 1968 Stang.

The main question is what are you looking to get out of you car.

The Box should be a MSD Ignition box

The MSD 6A is the base model of the capacitive multiple spark discharge 6 Series design.

Going over 4200 rpms is not the C4.

Think of it like this, Try breathing through a straw.

That is what you are trying to ask your stock 302 to do.

What you need is more air flow in your motor.

Heads, Intake Carb, & Cam. Well let you car breath and go higher rpms.

My motor will spin 7500 RPMs and pull hard the all the way to it.
and I use a Stock C4 with a shift kit.

Just buying new stuff will not make it better,
You have to match it for what you want to do with it.
What did you buy?
Cam specs?
Intake brand type?
Carb brand size?

Thx, Stalker

The intake is probably the EB Performer & with that carb should go to 5500rpm.
I would also suggest headers & 2 1/2" exhaust, getting air in is only 1/2 of it.
Sounds like the cam, lifters, and/or valve springs is limiting your rpms.
Can you find out the make/model of the cam & lifters?
