Minerva - 69 Grande resto project

I finally posted pics of the 69 stang I got my GF. Yes, she's a disaster right now, but it's practice for a shelby clone I'm going to build for myself afterward. There are cheaper and easier ways to do it, but it will keep me out of trouble for a while this way.

I hope you have fun doing it. I enjoy working on cars. I just don't have the time or the money right now.

Putting down the dying horse.

Well, as much as it pains me to do it, I'm going to have to put the Mustang down. It would seem that the parts I thought were still good were actually only held together by primer. After sanding off some of the thick primer on the "good" side of the trunk, the metal crumbled like a stale cracker. The whole thing is rotting from the inside out and the primer was just hiding it. After cutting off some damaged body panels, I got a good look at the inside of the frame only to find that it wasn't doing much better. Frankly, there's just not enough of this car left to restore. I'd have to replace more than half the car. If it was a Shelby or something equally rare and valuable, perhaps, but this is just too much money and effort for a common coupe. I really hate to give up on her and waste the money already spent, but further work would just be even more of a waste. I guess I'll put her up for auction as a parts car and try to recoup at least some of the money.

Sorry to hear that. If it was a fastback i would say go for it, but its not. You could put a quick bond job on her and paint job and sell her. I guess that would not be right to do, but it would be better for the Mustang.

As much as I'd like to get my money back, I can't be dishonest about it's condition. I'll sell it for what I can get, and I'll just have to put it down as an expensive learning experience. I did learn a lot from the disassembly and examination, though. I can put all the money that was devoted to this one towards buying my fastback, now. I'll just have to make sure that this one is in much better condition. :wink

Roof and upper quarter panels are good (right is only bad on very bottom, left is good about 8" above wheel well). The Firewall is so-so. Toeboards are rusted out and the outside edges on left and right sides might be a bit rusted, too. I'd have to check.

Sounds like it would be pro touring material, an out line to build a complete car to.
