blinker and taillight problem
I tried out my headlights taillights and blinkers etc today after rewiring the whole car. I have a problem. Headlights are fine, but when i try to do the right blinker and step on the brakes, the right blinker just lights up and stays lit and the rear right taillight wont light up. Everything else works but not those. Any suggestions?

On the driver side everything works, just not pasenger side. The blinker will turn on but not blink. Brake light will light up when lights turn on but won't get brighter when step on brake. I made sure that my grounds for brake lights on grounded. What other things should I be looking for?

Have you made sure the bulb is good .
The Tail light Brake/Turn go though the Turn signal colum. But if the a bulb goes out it will do the same thing as described. The Bulb is a 1157 it has two sides to it. Dim side is for tail light, Bright for Brake and Turn. |

Well now the brake lights work fine, connection wasnt secure but no turn signal at all now. Both are out. Driver side worked yesterday, but now neiter work. Also i want to start my mustang just to get it running but i dont have the petronics yet. What gap should the point be at just so i can start the car and let it run since its been about a month or so since its ran

Ok well now i think i have a bigger problem. Im thinking the blinker switch just went out so ill get a new one. But when i go to start my car, all it does is make this loud ticking sound then a puff of smoke comes off the positive batery terminal. After that nothing will work untill about a min later and then the headlights, gauge lights and taillights work. What is the deal. Im getting frustrated that i cant get the damn thing started

I'm new here, and I've been out of the game for a while, but I'm gonna take a guess on your click-click-puff problem.
Sounds like a bad connection at the battery...possibly a corroded terminal. The bad connection makes it hard for the starter to get enough juice to turn the engine over, causing it to click. Eventually, the amount of electricity you're trying to pass across that bad gap causes a lot of resistance heat, eventually burning the connection up, and you get the poof you discuss, as the circuit is broken. As the heat dissipates, the connection is eventually restored, and you restart the process again. Check all your main battery connections...that is both battery clamps, make sure they're good and clean, make sure the clamps are tight, and make sure you have a decent connection on both sides of the solenoid, and that the ground from battery to body is a good solid connection. If all that fails, also check where the positive lead attaches to the starter. That should at least get your motor turning over. Good luck, keep us posted. Steve |

ok well I'm buying new cables today to install. I found a few spot that the guy I bought it from just wraped it heavily with electrical tape so we will see. What about my blinkers though. Did the switch go out. Parking lights work just not blinkers so it's not the bulb. Tail lights work just fine

Cite: http://hammar.dyndns.org/~djhamma/wiring/1965/1965e.jpg I do not recommend a turn-signal switch until you've gone over everything with a test light and made sure that the electricity is going into the switch correctly, but not coming out. Otherwise you're risking throwing away good money. Did the switch work before you rewired, or do you not know? Steve |

I assume we know you're getting power to the switch. I'm basing this on the fact that you said your tail-lights were blinking fine. Are they? if so, then you know you are getting power to the switch. If not, then we need to back-track a bit. But working with the assumption that your tail lights are fine and dandy:
First make sure you're getting juice to the socket. If so, you know it's a bulb. If you're not, then you should check the wires coming out of the turn-signal switch. Specifically the green-white one, and the White-Blue one. if those wires don't get power coming out of the switch, when the ignition is ON, and the turn-signal is turned on, Then your switch is suspect. If you're getting power out of the switch, but it's not making it to the front turn signal sockets, then you have to check all your main connection points. Those are at the firewall(check both sides) and at the parking-light plug, behind the headlight. Somewhere along that circuit you're losing your connection. isolating where isn't usually a fun process. Best of luck. |

On the gap for the points, If you have a small peice of cardboard like what comes on the package for the lightbulbs then you can use that to gap it for now.If you have a feller gauge then i believe its .015 if an inch I might be wrong.Might ask Mustang1 for that.But the paper backing off the package will get you in the ball park and it will run fine.
