Autometer gauges
Now since my engine is back up and running im alittle worried about the oil pressure and temp. My stock guages only have warning lights so im going to get 2 autometer gauges to monitor this better. Can i still have my stock gauges work and the new temp gauge and oil pressure gauge hooked up as well. Also if someone could let me know what wiring and/or sending units i need to get to have everything set up right. Also a good place online to order all this from.

Why dont you swap out the 65 gauge panel with a 66 gauge panel. the only it will add the oil gauge.

I don't suppose if you get a blank 65gt/66 style gauges you can put in whatever you want? It would take modification?

The second solution is to order a replacement instrument-panel that has openings in it for the gauges. These offer the unique capability of holding 6 gauges, so you can mount your tach in the dash right next to the speedo, where it belongs! You'll see a lot of these cut from billet aluminum, and they look awesome. They cost a lot, too...300-500 dollars. A less known solution is the Shelby R Panel. They run about 75 dollars, but are made from sheet-metal that is crinkle painted, so they're not as beautiful. They were for the Shelby R Race Cars, so it was function over form. Mustangs Unlimited carries them: Mustangs Unlimited - DASH INSTRUMENT BEZEL 65 SHELBY R MODEL Another solution is a pod that mounts behind the stock plastic instrument bezel holding the gauges where the stock gauges were. I've never seen this deployed, but it looks like it would create a super neat clean install. Mustangs Plus carries them for 39.95 Mustangs Plus*-*Instrument Bezels*::*1965-66 5 Gauge Pod But essentially, yes, you can do what you're asking. Steve |

This is a set up we used, But they cost alot. this is a JME set up.
The 66 gauge set up is a better cheaper way to go.

Prices are crazy for the Autometer insturment panel w/gauges. They want almost 2K for a panel that will fit my 67.

I was just going to mount the gauges under the dash somewhere. I was going to see if anyone has done this and has a picture. Im not a big fan of the shelby dash mounting pod and i dont want to put them on the A-pllar. What are some other options. Make a mounting bracket and put them in the glove box? I would like them somewhere where i can just look down and see them but i dont want it to look bad inside though.

Well, another option, if you currently don't have a tach mounted on your steering column, you could try this:
Auto Meter 2204 - Auto Meter Gauge Mounting Cups - summitracing.com You can buy two of those, mount your gauges in them, and mount those onto your steering column using a hose-clamp. I recommend using a rubber barrier to keep the clamp from scratching the paint on your column. Mount them, one at about 10 o'clock, and one at 2, and it will probably look ok, and will be right under your gauge cluster, do easy to see while driving. It's not as cool looking as a rally pack...but you know, it's another option. |

The reason I wanted to go with the stock style is that it maches the glove box, and it's inexpensive, does that shelby R one match the stock glove box well enough? It's hard to tell from the photo.

Example Shelby Like I said, not as beautiful as other options. If you really want the matching look, you can go with the third option in my post above...the 5 cup instrument bezel from Mustangs Plus. You mount your new autometer (or whatever) gauges in those cups, and then take the stock lens and stock plastic instrument panel, and mount them to the cups. The theory is it'll look like a stock install, but when you look at the gauges, you'll see the new gauges, not the old un-marked stockers. I believe they would look really darn cool, but I've never seen a completed install with them. Also look at MustangOne's install...that's one of the billet-milled pieces I was talking about. It's not plastic so it's not an "exact" match of the glove-box...but it looks extremely close, only with different materials, and in my opinion is a beautiful piece. If you go with the cups bezel, you've GOT to take a picture for me to see. ![]() Steve |

That's really nice! I dig it! $300 is quite a good deal for a 5 gauge setup. Are you using mechanical or electric gauges? I see the gauges are sunpro, but what brand is the speedo? Electric or cable?
And did you get a ford-ohm based gas gauge, or did you put a different fuel level sending unit in the tank? Again, good job. Steve |
