Agreed. They'll just keep moving factories to Brazil anyway once they are healthy again.

Basically the big 3 are trying to save their asses and play the woe-is-me card. That's all it's going to be about.

i think we should bail out the auto industries... on the basis that they will create more fuel efficent cars, create more AMERICAN jobs and stop moving factories overseas and until the bailout money is paid back executives are limited to salaries that are no more than what the president makes.

then again if they file for bankruptcy maybe they can tell the unions to fuck off during the restructuring.

i think it makes more sense to bail out the auto industries than it does banks. at least they have something being produced.

i don't agree w/ bailouts at all but its going to happen.

here's the one good thing if the auto companies declare bankruptcy, the union deals will all be nullified. no more people getting payed 70 bucks an hour to screw something in.

I'll give the Ford CEO credit though...

He said that if they bailed 'em out, he'll work for $1 a year. If that's true, I'd be impressed.

Edit: Probably not like it really matters, because he probably has like $40 million in the bank, but still...

No, he didn't say he'll work for $1 a year. He said he would work for a SALARY of $1 per year. Saying he would work for $1 a year means he will receive a total of $1 a year. Saying he'll work for a salary of $1 per year means an annual salary of $1 PLUS any/all bonus. He might have a $1 annual salary with a $500k bonus.

they're all doing that...

ford CEO promised $1 salary for him, and management bonuses would be cancelled

GM CEO is getting $1 salary along with GM's board members also will get $1 for the year... 4 most senior execs would have compensations cut in half...

Chrysler already gets $1 salary, with no healthcare, insurance, or any other benefits

IMO it's a better idea than the bank bailout... we gave away money without even knowing any plans... and look what happened right afterwards... AIG spends $400,000 on a resort trip...

the big three isn't the only ones that fucked up... the government did too by giving tons of our money to people who obviously had no change in business practices...

at least these guys are giving us a very detailed and open plan, and has shown a lot of effort for change, not only the whole "carpool to the senate instead of flying" but also the amount of effort they're putting into electric and more fuel efficient cars...

I believe that if the big three die out... it'll throw this country into a depression faster than ever...especially my area... Michigan and the surrounding states... detroit of course needs those companies... my own city, Toledo, is basically centered around our Jeep plant and our GM powertrain plant... there are many, many others

yes, these companies did this to themselves, they need to build better quality, better priced products... but even so, it's not as easy as saying "it's their fault let them suffer the consequences" because they're not the only ones that will suffer consequences... we will too...

He got something like $39.1 million for his first 4 months as the Ford CEO

Edit: $39.1 Million or $28 million...I have 2 conflicting sources

It'll take them years before they can introduce anything comparable in quality and efficiency to a honda. They're in way over their heads and they should be allowed to fail.

All congress is doing is putting a band-aid on 2 internally bleeding companies, (Ford said it can pull through) GM and Chrysler. I say F*** em'.

So is the question that should be discussed, how big does a company have to be before it qualifies for a bailout plan? It seems like your basing your opinion on how big the company is (which is in no way illogical). Does this mean that if a company gets so big they are no longer responsible for there actions? It then becomes the governments responsibility to help them if they are going to go under?
