i have no clue wtf is goin on with my xbox

ive google this a few times already and i must be doin somethin wrong

im tryin to use my laptop as a router for my 360 but everytime i go to set it up it says its not gettin an ip address from my laptop

i had everything set up the other day but now its gone all to shit
can someone please walk me thru this?

you are using wireless to connect your laptop to a wireless router right?

not just plugging in an ethernet cable from the wall then another one from PC to xbox... (which wouldn't make much sense...)

my laptop is pickin up wireless and i have my xbox hooked up to my laptop via ethernet cable

turn any firewalls off
and idk if it would matter, but are you using a crossover ethernet cable? if so try a standard one instead

i dont know exactly how on vista but here is the gist of it. Ill do a quick runthru on xp.

-go to your network connections
-right click on your wireless connection
-go to properties
-click the advance tab
-there should be a box that you can check that says "allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connect" check that box
-there should be another box that says "allow other network users to control or disable the shared interenet connection" go ahead and check this too.

that should make it work. Another way to do it is

-highlight your wireless connection and your local area connection
-right click
-click bridge connection

the problem with connecting to xbox live through a computer is that your NAT setting is a shoot or miss. You cant go set up ports to get an open setting like you can if your xbox is connected directly to the router.

this should get you up and going, let me know if it works

how can i tell which kind it is

the cable that came with your xbox is a crossover and that is the cable type that you need.

hmmm... never used vista for it, so I'm going around searching...

seems like xbox.com doesn't have any support for using ICS with vista... has everything up to XP...

i had had the same problem with my setup. Everything was setup right, but it wouldn't pick up an IP address half the time.It was unstable and unreliable i gave up trying to get it working right and ran a line from the router to the xbox.
