Congrats. What lens did it come with?

There are plenty of guys on here that can teach you how to use it.

for night shots lower your ISO to about 800 and open the shutter to about .5 seconds. while using flash. this is going to be tricky cause the shutter will be open for a while so breath all the way in through your whole body and hold you breath then push the button.

of course, if you have no idea what i just said, read the manual or something.

thats a good idea...need to get a tripod or something for it.

This shot was just to take a quick snap, wasnt really playing with it much. Glad photobucket resized it, cause the normal size is huge!

yea, also, get lightroom3, if you don't already. If you are able to get a tripod, shoot in low ISO, 200 or so. A flash will bring out the fore ground and the long exposure with let the back ground expose and reveal itself.

I'm really confused between ISO and shutter speed...aren't they one in the same? Arent they both in how long the shutter is open for the exposure?

Damn this stuff gets crazy confusing...anybody got a photos for dummies kind of thing?

Just picked up a nikkor 55-200 mm vr lens, cleaning kit and the nikon accesary kit...now all i need is a tripod. Stopped by circuit city for their going out of buisness sale...they had the lens for $165, figured that was a decent price.

Next thing i want to buy is a close up lens...but damn those things are expensive!!! The one i want is about $800.

Nah the d60 is typically around 650 for the basic kit. The deal with the extra lens was a damn good deal.

Seriously pick up Nikon D60 for Dummies book. It really brings it down to basics. these cameras <I have Nikon D40> have SOOOOO much and no ISO and shutter speed are not the same. I'm waiting for better weather to play with mine...I used to have a manual Pentax K1000 35mm...man that was sooo easy to figure out, this one..well my problem is I keep comparing and it's not the same thing. It should be, but it's got so much stuff.

The one thing I have learned is when setting any digital camera to automatic settings, it adjusts the COLOR also. No wonder I had a bitch of a time trying to capture my old Sonic Blue 03! I'm going to start using manual settings and forget about automatic for a while. Then make a log with different settings using the same subject-then I can really SEE what it all means.

Good luck, Nikon makes a great camera.: ) But I do recommend this book.

The circuit city out here had the d40 for $375 or so...no box, but everything else looked to be there.
