...BUT...some signature databases (the free stuff's) aren't updated as frequent and could possibly allow a window of vulnerability...

Not with Avira antivir.

It's updated automatically.
And if you're concerned about any loopholes get yourself a FREE firewall with Spybot.

A2 software is another great tool to rid a computer of any malignant software.

i know avast is updated almost daily. Besides if you browse safe you generally dont have a problem.

been using AVG free edition for about a year now and haven't had any issues so far. That's the only personal recommendation I can give.

I've heard AVG is good. I personally like avast because after you install it the first time it does a boot time scan. That way minimal files are loaded into windows and it can do a really good scan.

AVG does similar offering you the chance to do varying degrees of scanning. I just set mine to scan everything at like 4am when I'm asleep, as well as download updates, etc. I basically never have to look at what AVG is doing, it does it all for me

I have Avast and what i like most about it (besides its free) is that it scans your entire computer continuously over 3 days. This means its running super slow and puts 0 lag on your computer. Plus, when it detects something, it flips shit and sends buzzards and whistles off. I really like it.
