My Enemy!

The spritzer cookie! For the past 3 years straight Ive attempted them in failure. I consider myself above average in the kitchen but these cookies never turn out for me. Anyone thats ever tried to make these little bitches knows that they can go from perfect to burnt in 10 seconds. I pulled my desk chair up in front of the stove and watched them like some sick cookie voyeur. But it was worth it...I beat them! Pulled them out just in time (6 and a half minutes on 360 degree's)Finally got a batch that are perfect. Flavored with Vanilla, Rum and just a bit of coconut. My color was a little off...looks more like camouflage then Christmas green but I can live with it!

Love them! You did awesome! No Almond flavor? That's my fav!

I did 8 dozen cookies and 2 dozen truffles the other night.

I'm done... Was going to make some mini lemon poppy seed cakes from your recipe but don't have the energy. lol

It's a classic cookie. Have to use a spritzer press. The dough goes in and there is a dye at the bottom - push the dough through to form the cookies.

It's a tedious process. Which is why I don't do it.

Jake I would have reped you but it says I gotta spread it around

I believe its a German thing but Im not sure of the history. I bet alot of you guys have eaten them and didnt even know it. Most every American grandma has a press burried deep in a shelf somewhere. I have a real nice press I bought that came with a bunch of dies. The best way to describe it is like a playdough fun factory for cookies! You usually see these cookies in the Christmas tree shape but I wanted to try an easier more "uniform" shape to help me get them cooked correctly all the way through. I think it helped. The trick is getting the dough viscous enough to press through the die but firm enough to hold the shape. And Mama, you are soooo right...very tedious and the cleanup sucks nuts. But I was up for it I guess tonight.

One more thing Mama--- When I first posted this, my wife came out and said "Jake, lets get to Albertsons before they close so you can do the next batch Almond". You are right, I think thats the traditional flavor for Spritzers.

Special about them.... well they are kind of like a sugar cookie but a little drier in texture and less sweet. Maybe close to like a "tea" or "coffee" cookie. I made mine with just a bit of honey to retain some moisture.

OMZ- Keep your eye out in the mail. I'm serious! I'll send a couple! Nothing fancy,,, I have a padded envelope and I'll toss a couple in there. I wonder if it will make it safely?
